May 17th Grad meeting - 
Here are the notes from the meeting:
TDSS 2018 GRADS - Reminders

1)            Grad is Thurs., June 27th at the Northern College – Haileybury
Group Photo (Gym 150 @ TDSS)- be here at 5:15 pm
Grad Line-up – must be at Haileybury campus by 6:15 pm

2)           Remind your guests to bring their invitations to the ceremony, if you have not picked up your 4 invitations they are available at the main office.

3)           Be respectful, no talking during speeches, awards or diploma distribution.


4)           Graduates must dress appropriately - pants, socks and shoes for the gentlemen – no sandals or bare feet gentlemen! Gentleman need a shirt and tie for the group photo.
5)        Any grad under the influence of alcohol or drugs will be asked to leave and will not cross the stage.

6)           Award Winners    - you will receive an envelope describing the award you won and how to collect it.  You must write a thank you note to the donor of the award.  Thank you notes must be proof read after you complete them.  You must bring the note into the school (do not seal it) so it can be checked.  You will not receive the money for the award without a thank-you note.
  
7)           Be careful when going down the steps at the grad as the sleeve of your gown can catch on the railing. Grads receiving awards exit by the back stairs behind the curtains.

8)           Grads throw their hats up at the end of the Valedictorian’s speech.
  
9)           At the end of the ceremony and after ample photo opportunities you must bring your gown and stole back and give your name to the staff member collecting them, such that your name can be stroked off the list. The cap & tassel are yours for keepsake.

March 20th 
Grad meeting minutes 

  1. Date for Graduation is Wed., June 27th,  2018. Ceremonies will be at Northern College (Haileybury) at 7 pm.
  2. Community Service Hours (40 hours) must be completed by April 13th. If not completed you must make an appointment to see Mrs. Siermachesky with your plan for completing your hours before graduation, if you are planning to cross the stage.
  3. All students wishing to be eligible for awards and scholarships must complete an on line application. If you are returning to TDSS, you are not eligible for awards. Go to tinyurl.com/TDSSGrad2018
  4. All grads should ensure that they are on Remind. Grad information and other award information is sent using this app. If you aren’t getting message, see Mrs. Rivet or Mrs. Aquino in guidance to get added to the list.
  5. Cost to graduate is $45 (plus $25 activity fee if not paid already!) and you pay on line or at the Office – this cap and gown fee is due by  Friday,April 13th.
  6. Professional Grad photos will be taken April 17-19th by Photografiks, . These photo sessions must be booked on line: www.photographiks.net
  7. Students must be at TDSS Gym 150 for group photo by 5:15 pm and at Northern College, Haileybury -  to get gown on by 6:15 – June 27th .
  8. Grads will receive only 4 invitations for grad. Additional tickets may be requested when tickets are distributed. No guarantees that we can grant them. We will not know this information until June 26th.
  9. Nominations for valedictorian took place.   You will be voting for the valedictorian at the next meeting. Your nominees are:
    • Brayden D’Arcey
    • Annie Males
    • Madyson Sharp
    • Shawn Wong

Grad Meeting Minutes


  1. Congratulations – you have almost made it!

  2. Important information:

    • Graduation is Wed., June 27th Northern College Haileybury

    • There will be a series of very important meetings between now and then. Students who are leaving 2nd semester and those who have a 4 credit co-op (semester 2) will receive information through Remind to let them know about upcoming meeting dates or that will collect handouts to share. Information and reminders are also posted on the school website.

    • Grad requirements



    • -30 credits (all required compulsory courses completed)
      -Community involvement (40 hours by April 3rd )
      -You will not graduate until the hours are completed – guidance board/website. These hours MUST be pre-approved – due Fri., April 3rd  or see me for extension and your plan to complete
      -Literacy test successfully completed

      -Activity fee paid ($25)
      -Grad fee paid ($45) gown rental, keeper cap, expenses (food, decorations, gown rentals) deadline Fri., April 6th


               3. If you cross the stage and return to TDSS you can’t cross again and you are only eligible for awards when you cross the stage.



  1.  All graduates are encouraged to complete the grad awards information which will be located on the Grad Blog in the Spring. This file is not ready for input yet. In order to be eligible for any awards at the ceremony, students must provide us with their information. There are awards for a wide variety of students – awards are not based on marks alone!


Awards criteria include:




    • Academic success

    • Community involvement

    • Attitude & effort

    • Parents’ place of employment

    • Place of residence

    • Area of study (post-secondary)
 



  1. Guidance Notes:


  • Grad Interviews: Grad interviews for this year are now completed. All Grade 12 Potential Grads were given two opportunities to attend an appointment.

  • Grad Blog: Please remember to be checking the blog regularly for updates in regards to important graduation and scholarship information. The grad award link will be posted on the blog in the Spring but you do need to know where you are heading next September prior to completing the awards application.


  • Remind: if you haven’t already joined our Remind group, please see your Guidance Counsellor to do so. Mrs. Inglis sends out important information about awards/grad via remind.

  • Nomination Form: Some scholarships require that you be nominated by your school administration. You must complete the form and forward it to Mrs. Beauchamp. Decisions as to who TDSS will nominate for such awards will be based on these applications. Please make note of deadline dates for such awards and allow plenty of time to complete these applications and for TDSS to make a decision. These forms are available in the Guidance Office.

  • College/University Applications – Application deadlines are quickly approaching! January 17th is the last day to apply to university with the college deadline being Feb. 1st. Please see your Guidance Counsellor if you require assistance with your application. We would be more than happy to help you out!


  • Reminder to be checking your emails regularly. This is the vehicle for communication for colleges, OCAS, universities, OUAC. Bursary/scholarships, etc to contact students with important information.

  • Pre-Admission Testing: You should be investigating whether or not you are required to complete additional PRE-ADMISSION testing for your college and university program. Review the Pre-Admission Testing Procedures in the Guidance Section of the TDSS website or for the contact information required to make arrangements for the possibility of completing your testing through Employment Options at Northern College in Haileybury.

Grad Meeting Minutes


  • Mrs. Rivet and Mrs. Inglis presented a video on the Grad Exit Package.  To see the full video and Exit Package Resource, check the TDSS Website (Guidance Tab).
  • Mrs. Inglis reviewed the contents of the Grad Blog.  In order to see regular scholarship updates that we become aware of, volunteer opportunities, college and university information or minutes from the grad meetings, you should be checking the Blog.
  • Mrs. Rivet had students join our "Remind" group to receive reminders about important dates, scholarships, and deadlines through text.  You can also sign up using your email if you would prefer.  
  • We would encourage you to share these valuable resources with your parents.
  • Next Grad Mtg TBA.

We will meet in the small gym.
